"Shake and Rattle" is the work of Atlanta-area veteran conga player, percussionist and drummer Thomas Hood. I made my first shekere over 30 years ago while I was in college. It was not very good. I still have it. My first percussion instructor encouraged us to make our own instruments. Since then I have been constantly refining my techniques and now "My goal is to offer you the finest custom hand-crafted Shekeres on the market. Period."

I choose only the best California grown, thick-shelled gourds from the Welburn Gourd Farm for their tone, color, size, consistency and symmetry. Visit my Facebook page to see pictures and desciptions of my available gourds.
You can choose from any of 16 bead colors. (I use plastic beads for their durability and consistency of sound.) I use black or white nylon cords and leather foundation rings. The bottom foundation ring adjustable.
